Keren Or -- Jerusalem Center for Blind Children with Multiple Disabilities

Women's Division

The Women’s Division of Keren Or, chaired by Marilyn Lauer, continues its tradition of hosting exciting, social and cultural fundraising events that enhance the lives of Keren Or’s special students in Jerusalem.

Always the hallmark of our Women’s Division activities, we continue to host docent-led New York City museum tours. Two visits to the Museum of Modern Art featured the Willem de Kooning exhibit in November 2011, and Diego Rivera and Cindy Sherman exhibits in February. We attended the 10th Anniversary Special Exhibition of the Ronald S. Lauder Collection at the Neue Galerie, and in June we were treated to a tour of the new American Wing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This November we visited the New York Historical Society to see Nature for American Vision: the Hudson River School and WWII & NYC. In December we enjoyed the Picasso exhibit at the Guggenheim.

8th Annual LuncheonWomen's Division Gala Luncheon

The much anticipated 8th annual Women’s Division Gala Spring Luncheon took place on May 9, at the Park Avenue Synagogue. Chaired by Nicole Appleman, Judy Levine, Betsy Lopata, and Rose Schreiber, the afternoon was a great success. We were fortunate to have Women Division board Vice President, Linda Rothschild as guest of honor, along with her mother Sophie Rosenstock. Linda and her husband Steve are both dedicated leaders and supporters of Keren Or. Helping those in need, and children in particular, is second nature for Linda, who follows in the footsteps of her mother, Sophie Rosenstock, from whom she learned Torah values and a deep commitment to the Jewish people.

In her inspirational remarks to the 200 supporters, family and friends in attendance Linda emphasized that “every society is judged by how it treats its least fortunate amongst them. Your presence and assistance enables the blind, multi-handicapped children of Keren Or, with the help of the outstanding and dedicated staff, to enjoy a higher quality of life, enabling them to progress toward greater goals and independence. Keren Or is a place where miracles happen every day, where darkness turns to light, disability to capability. It is a place where hope abounds.”

Luncheon guests were also inspired by guest speaker, popular psychotherapist M. Gary Neuman, whose eloquent and entertaining words provided insights into how to improve our closest personal relationships.

Proceeds from the luncheon and all Women’s Division activities go toward enrichment programs for our special youngsters. The early intervention and summer camp retreats we fund are not covered by the regular Keren Or budget.

Do not miss out on upcoming Women’s Division events. Our activities are unparalleled and your participation would be most welcome. Please join or renew your membership and become part of our mission!
