The Keren Or Women’s Division is gearing up for an outstanding year of activities, and while our membership drive is in full throttle, we can boast about a very dynamic and productive 2012-13 season.
An outstanding group of committed women enjoyed a variety of successful social and cultural activities, including evenings at the theater – most notably the very moving Not by Bread Alone, featuring an Israeli troupe of all blind-deaf actors. Our hallmark docent-led museum tours included perennial favorites as well as new places and experiences: The New York Historical Society, MoMA, the Guggenheim, Whitney, and Jewish Museums. After Passover a lucky group of women participated in a fabulous day trip to the Barnes Foundation and Rodin Museums in Philadelphia.
Women's Division Gala Luncheon
Our much anticipated annual Gala Spring Luncheon took place on May 1 at the Park Avenue Synagogue. Chaired by Nicole Appleman, Sherry Grabie, Judy Levine, Betsy Lopata, Etella Marcovici and Linda Rothschild, the luncheon was as always, perfectly arranged and executed. Our guest of Honor was Women’s Division energetic and enthusiastic board member, Bina Blumenfrucht, who, surrounded by friends and family, graciously accepted the Shining Light Award. Our able Young Leadership co-chairs included Jordona Brandler, Elana Dushey, Sarette Hornblass, Kari Levine, Alisa Olina and Shira Perl and a Young Leadership Award was presented to Ilana (Bughie) Lawrence. Our deepest thanks to our wonderful honorees for their devotion to the blind, multi-disabled children of Keren Or. To round out the lovely afternoon, our guests were treated to a luncheon first – live entertainment – a select preview from the cast of Soul Doctor, the new musical based on the life and music of Shlomo Carlebach, featuring a special beautiful and spirited performance by Neshama Carlebach.
Proceeds from the luncheon and all Women's Division initiatives go toward enrichment programs for the students of Keren Or which are not included in our regular budget. This includes early intervention and summer camp programs.
If you have not as yet done so, we hope you will join or renew your membership for the 2013-14 season. We welcome your participation in our activities throughout the year and look forward to greeting you at next year’s luncheon
