We are very excited to report that construction on our $3.5 million new Hydrotherapy Center at Keren Or is 90% complete. We expect to have a Grand Opening and Dedication Ceremony in Jerusalem during Sukkot.
The center-piece of the new building is the brand new state-of the-art Hydrotherapy Pool.
This semi-Olympic size pool is specially adapted to address the needs of the visually impaired and multi-disabled. It has special ceiling lifts to raise and lower the children into and out of the pool safely, and individual treatment areas. Hydrotherapy has proven to be of critical importance in the therapy of children with impaired movement such a cerebral palsy, which afflicts many of our students. Therapeutic programs conducted in water have transforming potential. Children who have never walked on their own, can learn to do so in a hydrotherapy pool. Hydrotherapy brings joy to children who cannot see. It brings pleasure and a sense of “I can do it” to the lives of people with multiple disabilities.
The facility will also feature a Paramedical Treatment Center with Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech Therapy rooms, and a fully equipped Snoezelen (Multi-Sensory Stimulation Therapy) room. Snoezlen Therapy is a ground breaking therapeutic technique, which provides for a protected and controlled environment where children receive sensory stimulation such as lights and moving colors for those with residual vision, and sound, aroma and tactile sensations for those who are completely blind.
This expansion will make Keren Or the premier institution in all of Israel, and perhaps the world, for the treatment of children who are blind and multi-disabled.
We invite anyone who will be in Israel for Sukkot 09 to this celebration at our campus in Ramot, Jerusalem. Call our office (212) 279-4070 for details
Synagogue
The synagogue is an integral part of the school and the surrounding community. By expanding the synagogue we allow greater access to our friends and family and help our special children connect with their heritage and their community. As the Hydrotherapy Center will encompass the present synagogue space. a new synagogue will be constructed in the existing expansion space on the main level. The synagogue will contain more seating, a beautiful ark and a garden terrace; all blending together to become a tranquil environment for reflection, prayer and communal bonding.
